Meet Derek at Midwest Bank. Derek has worked for Midwest Bank for over one year and is Retail Specialist at our Lincoln Pioneer branch. Derek grew up in Creighton, Nebraska and moved to Lincoln to attend Nebraska Wesleyan University.

Derek started working in the Lincoln Jamie Lane branch and is now one of the first employees to work in the Pioneer branch. In his role, he opens accounts for customers, as well as run transactions and do all the basic tasks of the frontline of the bank.

Derek enjoys his role on the frontline because he gets to assist clients and work with a fun team. When asked what favorite memory from working at Midwest Bank, Derek shared “Customer Appreciation Day.”

When Derek isn’t working, he’s reading Atomic Habits, binge-watching Gravity Falls, or going for a run. He also has a Mastiff mix, Jack, a Border Collie mix, Cinch, and a Lab, Ruger. Derek loves cold weather because his favorite destination is Winter Park in Colorado, he wants to retire in the mountains, and his dream vacation is to snowboard in Japan.

Working at Midwest Bank, Derek knows the benefits of community banking versus a large, national, big bank. Derek explains “Community banks thrive on relationships, and they create a close connection between employees as well as customers. It is like a small town where you know everyone by name.” We live in a day and age where you can deposit or borrow money anywhere, even online, but a strong, community bank is built different. We know your name, we know your family, we know your challenges, and are here to find the best fit for YOU.
